One of the most famous stories in Scheherazade’s 1001 Nights is about Aladdin and the Genie. I designed this piece years ago, and even constructed most of it. It went to a show, where it was promptly dropped on a flagstone floor by the curators. About a zillion little pieces were returned to me, and disgusted by their lack of an apology, I threw it all into a box for over a dozen years.
When Luba, winner of the February Etsy Beadweavers Challenge, suggested “Shades of Scheherazade” as the theme of this month’s challenge (April 2013), I decided it was time to find the pieces of this project and either rework it or toss the whole thing. Hours later, I think I successfully have captured a Persian garden within the fabulous architecture of ancient Persia that has inspired so much dance and art but since the piece is a rework, I haven’t added it to the challenge.

Our crazy weather is really making me guess at what’s going to  come next.  But the daffodils are blooming, and I cut some forsythia for a vase in the house.  Usually spring is my favorite time of year, but this year I just am not sure what will happen outside my door in the next two hours.Just as a reminder, at the end of this month, I’ll get to see old friends again at the Rocky Mountain Bead Society Show in Denver.  I’ll have more details on the 22nd.Next month, we have some brand new multimedia and beads classes at the Gahanna Bead Studio including this bizarro bracelet (you can make it with or without the spikes).  I’ll tell you about them in May, but meanwhile, we still have room in a couple of the classes this month.  Details and links are in the post below.

I’ve been working hard to update my Etsy There’s tons of new stuff on there and loads of clearance items in the artisan focal beads, eurostyle beads and beaded jewelry sections.

Happy beading!

Hannah

Updated – Etsy!  AGAIN!
Etsy
I’ve added even more to the Beads and Kits sections!  Check them out – I’m getting ready for the Rocky Mountain Bead Society show, so get ’em before the show!

Also, Etsy rolled a new instant downloads option.  If you didn’t catch this in my last newsletter, this means that when you purchase a tutorial, you’ll get a link to automatically download your tutorial to your computer.  Yippee!

Also check the artisan focal beads, beaded jewelry, and euro-style big hole beads sections for some crazy clearance prices.

I could have sworn that I had posted about the last Mini Bead Fest for my Etsy team, the Etsy Bead Embroidery Guild, but I can’t seem to find it in my postings.  Bad on me.

The current challenge is “Emerald,” which is the Pantone Color of the year.

Here’s what our team Leader, Connie, says about the mini fests:

“We will have a Mini Fest every 6 weeks, starting in Jan 2013. EBEG will announce
the dates a week beforehand- the whole idea is to have more exposure on our blog
and more visibility on Etsy.

You will bead embroider any of the smaller items in the jewelry range, being it
hair barrettes, brooches, earrings, pendants, rings. You may do up to three (3)
items during each 6 weekly period, we will put everything in a collage as well
so it can be posted on FB, Blog. This is a fun Fests. The price cap on each
individual item will be $150.

We will not have a theme as such, but a color will be chosen for each Mini Fest,
and that color must then make up the larger portion of your item. You may use
only one other color with the main color, or as many colors as you would like to
use, as long as the main color is represented in at least 60% of your item. When
all the pics are put together in a collage, the main color will carry through
the whole collage.”

Ready to see them all?  Mine is the big one…

Wanna see an even larger photo of mine?  Head over to https://www.etsy.com/listing/127256448/hannah-rosner-english-garden-pendant?ref=shop_home_active

To see larger photos of any of the rest of them, go to Etsy and put in EBEG Mini Fest as a search item.  It will show you the pieces from our current mini fest and also our previous one (which was “white.”)

Here it is!!!! It’s reveal day for the BEAD SOUP BLOG HOP!

Just as a reminder, here’s what my partner, Darlene Fortier, sent to me.

I used the yellow matte beads, the pearls, the focal bead and the clasp. I added some 8/0 metallic AB green beads, some silver wire, beads and spacers, and some crystal.  I stashed the antique steel cut seed beads in with my drawer of “favorite things ever.”

The bracelet is sized XXS, and it fit me perfectly and I ADORE it.

As a reminder, late last month, I signed up for the 7th Bead Soup Blog Party.
You can read more about it here http://goodrivergallery.blogspot.com/2013/01/bead-soup-blog-party-sign-ups.html.

  Updated – Etsy!

I’ve added even more to the Beads and kits sections!
Check them out!

Also, Etsy rolled a new instant downloads option.  This means that when you purchase a tutorial, you’ll get a link to automatically download your tutorial to your computer.  No more waiting for me to get back to my computer – instead you get instant gratification!  Yippee!  I think all of my tutorials are now available for immediate download.  Let me know if you find any that I’ve missed.

As a reminder, late in january, I signed up for the 7th Bead Soup Blog Party.

Here’s what she sent to me.  I’m not going to use the antique steel cut seed beads.  Why not?  Well, I collect antique seed beads, so they are just going into my own super secret dragon stash.  I haven’t decided what to do with the vintage glass vintage triangles, but the rest have been combined with some Toho 8/0 metallics.  Here’s what I have so far – its a bracelet!

I plan on adding… what else?  Fringe!  I’ve tried making some bellflowers using my new Carlo Dona press, but they just too big and took over that focal bead by George O’Grady.  So…  stop by on the reveal day (March 30) to see what I’ve done!
